Composer Mikey McCleary seems to take up from where he left off TV Dinners, in Waiting. The four song soundtrack largely carries a jingle-like sound. Not that it is a bad thing; I had loved TV Dinners. The first song here is Tu Hai Toh Main Hoon, a lovely melody that Anushka Manchanda delivers to a tee with excellent backing from the composer, both on vocal harmonies and the gentle guitar-led backdrop (all instruments played by Mikey too). Waiting For You too carries a similarly soothing feel, riding again on a very endearing tune and arrangement set to a waltz-y rhythm. Mikey and Anushka deliver this one as a duet. Composer goes rock and roll for the upbeat Got My Eyes On You and pulls it off neatly, helped by Rhys Sebastian with his sax. Mikey does some interesting modification to his voice here that lends well to the retro feel. The final track, Zara Zara, is the most “filmy” sounding song of the soundtrack. And this one has Kavita Seth and Vishal Dadlani in the lead, both in top form negotiating the soaring notes that the song moves towards as it progresses. The arrangement too progresses in similar fashion, starting off on a simple piano backing and building in intensity as it progresses (once again some nice use of Rhys Sebastian’s sax) – familiar but effective.
Waiting. Mikey McCleary is back in business, delivering a bunch of immensely likeable ditties! Hope this soundtrack gets the attention it deserves. Also, I have a feeling this is first full soundtrack.
