Songs at the end of the review.
Vijay Sethupathi might be a good actor but he should stay well away from singing as he proves conclusively in Orae Oru Oorula and Straight Ah Poyee. Two songs that start off promisingly with Justin Prabhakaran’s arrangement before the actor lays waste to the whole effort. If you persist despite the vocals though, there is some commendable work by Justin in the backdrop. Theeraadhae Aasaigal on the other hand isn’t very strong on the tune or arrangement front, both are quite run-of-the-mill with just the occasional standout moments. He does however get the vocalist right on this one, the ever-dependable Karthik who carries the song through with a fab rendition. It is in Payanangal Thodarudhae that everything comes together in a winning fashion – the tune is endearingly pleasant, with just the occasional hint of melancholy, and the composer sets it to a sprawling background. The singing by Naresh Iyer and Padmalatha is equally exquisite.
Orange Mittai. A soundtrack that would have been a much better listen if not for Vijay Sethupathi.
