Ragini MMS 2 – Music Review (Bollywood Soundtrack)

You can listen to the soundtrack here.

Baby Doll’s techno-Punjabi-infused familiarity makes it equal parts engaging and annoying. Composers Meet Brothers Anjjan contribute generously to the latter, with a lot of jarring sounds, while UK-based Kanika Kapoor belongs to the former courtesy her fairly decent Bollywood debut. The remix leans more towards the annoying half. Yo Yo Honey Singh’s intonations make Chaar Botal Vodka sound like a mod interpretation of some Devang Patel song. Like the first song, occasionally engaging but with every scope getting tedious. With its simple melody and an arrangement that prominently features sarod, Pranay Rijia’s Maine Khud Ko starts off promisingly, but gets bogged down big time by the monotonous way the song is handled. Mustafa Zahid and Kshitij Tarey sing the two versions, the latter doing a better job. Chirantan Bhatt gives the soundtrack its best (least middling, rather) track in Lori Of Death. The lullaby is adequately spooky in its tune, and Arpita Chakraborty does a good job with her whispery rendition.

Ragini MMS 2. A largely unremarkable soundtrack from a bunch of composers.
