Ungli – Music Review (Bollywood Soundtrack)

ungli posterAslam Keyi and Kumaar’s Ungli Pe Nacha Le is just standard techno Punjabi fare, tailor-made for the dance floors. It should serve that purpose well, and has nothing exceptional otherwise. Good singing by the composer along with Dev Negi and Shilpa Goyal by the way. Sachin Jigar’s dance track is catchier, and that flute is an imaginative addition, but the song still largely stays within the confines of that standard Punjabi dance template that makes it daunting in just a few listens. It is the other two composers that make the soundtrack worthwhile. Salim Sulaiman score their best song of the year, in fact best movie track in quite a while, with Auliya. Sweet melody, breezy unplugged kind of treatment, and exceptional singing by Arman Malik – this one is total win. Gulraj Singh gets one song more than the rest. His first song too is a very hummable melody called Pakeezah which the composer gives a delicate arrangement, dominated by guitars and some beautiful flute. Gulraj himself does the singing, along with some splendidly employed backing vocals. In Adarniya Ungli the composer channels his Tutiya Dil mode, producing a cocktail of intriguing and occasionally wacky sounds around his regular lyrical partner Manoj Yadav’s lines (who also penned Pakeezah). The singing is fabulous here, both by the lead singers (Vishal Dadlani, Neeti Mohan) and the chorus – an engaging mix of attitude and mockery.

Ungli. One more proof that Gulraj Singh should be getting more music projects.

Music Aloud Rating: 7.5/10
