Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania – Music Review (Bollywood Soundtrack)

Jawad Ahmed’s melody Samjhawan from the 2010 Punjabi movie Virsa gets a nice makeover at the hands of Sharib Toshi with some Hindi lyrics contributed by Kumaar. The duo gets Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal to replace Rahat from the original, and they do their job wonderfully. Saturday Saturday too is a recreated song, the composers adapting The Titans and Badshah’s Punjabi dance track and getting Akriti Kakar to sing the additional parts which she does quite well. Not the best choice of song though. The composers’ last track is also a dance track, Emotional Fool, sung by Toshi Sabri. Starts off interestingly but gets tedious as it goes.

The other half of the soundtrack is done by Sachin Jigar who have had an unusually quiet 2014 after being on top of their game last year. Think it is their first project this year I think. Anyway, they start with a fun, festive song called Daingad Daingad (they seem to be pronouncing it as daingal at times though; Haryanvi?). Very engagingly arranged with an array of interesting folk sounds, the jollity seems to rub off well on the singers too, of which there are many – Udit Narayan, Akriti Kakar, Divya Kumar, Pratibha Baghel, Deepali Sathe and Niharika Sinha. Lucky Tu Lucky Main isn’t half as interesting, just a regular techno dance track sung by Benny Dayal and Anoushka Manchanda, with some rapping from the hero Varun Dhawan. D Se Dance fares better owing to a (marginally) more layered arrangement and a catchy tune. Vishal Dadlani and Shalmali Kholgade with their exuberance do the rest.

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Average soundtrack where Sachin Jigar emerge the better (counting only the originals that is). But just.

Music Aloud Rating: 6.5/10
