Kya Dilli Kya Lahore – Music Review (Bollywood Soundtrack)

Kisse Lambe sounds almost like a Coke Studio Pakistan product in places, except the song isn’t as interesting. It does have Sukhwinder Singh and Rahat’s spirited singing going for it though. Built on a melody that beautifully captures the hopelessness in being lonely, Kaleje Mein scores much higher (particularly loved the line Lakeerein khenchkar tanha kabaddi khelta hota). Composer Sandesh Shandilya makes very good use of strings here, supporting Ustad Hamid Ali Khan’s commendable rendition. Jo Dikhte Ho too has a very likeable melody to aid Gulzar’s simple, conversational lyrics that had me wishing for a female version. There is only a male version however, sung fabulously by Shafqat Amanat Ali. Papon bags the best of the soundtrack – Lakeerein. The song starts with the lyricist reciting a couple of lines in his trademark cadence, before Papon takes over and finishes the rest in style. Sandesh gives this one a breezy treatment, going for the rock flavour here, with a surprise entry of the sarangi in places.

Kya Dilli Kya Lahore. Sandesh Shandilya creates a lovely little soundtrack with Gulzar. Asking again, why the hell does this man not get more opportunities to compose?
