Himmatwala – Music Review

Himmatwala posterListen to the soundtrack here.

Staying quite faithful to Bappi Lahiri’s originals, lead composers Sajid Wajid do a fairly decent job with Naino Mein Sapna and Taki O Taki, well supported by the singers – Kishore’s role taken up by son Amit Kumar in the former and Mika Singh in the latter, while Shreya Ghoshal comfortably pulls off Lata and Asha’s parts in the respective songs. The composers’ first original song Dhoka Dhoka has them attempting a similar kind of masala and ending up with a mashup of many 90s tunes of the genre. Actually even this mashup is effective to the same level as the previous two songs, lack of originality notwithstanding. Thanks to the vocal efforts by Sunidhi Chauhan, Mamta Sharma and Bappi Lahiri. Bum Pe Laat falls flat however, despite Shaan’s best efforts to infuse life into it with his singing. Guest composers Sachin Jigar invoke the disco era quite well in their Thank God It’s Friday, again with a strong déjà vu though. Singing by Sunidhi Chauhan is unsurprisingly spot on, given the genre.

Himmatwala. Expectedly massy soundtrack from Sajid Wajid and Sachin Jigar with very less freshness to it.
