Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil – Music Review (Malayalam Soundtrack)

Ouseppachan presents a nice ghazal-flavored arrangement in Azhalinte Aazhangalil. Hearing more of the genre in Malayalam films of late. And neatly done too, most of them. Nikhil Mathew and Abhirami Ajay sing well in their respective versions, Abhirami slightly better. The composer has never gone wrong with soft melodies, Thulli Manjinnullil is another testimony to that fact, with lovely use of harmonies and everything. The only oddity is that fleeting but recurrent scale change, that almost makes one feel the singers have messed up. Kudos to Gayathri and Najeem Arshad for pulling that off in the female and male versions though. The final track Januaryil seems to bear good tidings, the way it starts off with the breezy guitar riffs. And then it settles down to being a mediocre fare, with a dated tune and equally dated accompaniments. Vijay Yesudas, Franco and Cicily don’t sound anything special with their singing either.

The debut partnership between a director known for grand musical works and a veteran composer, Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil’s soundtrack is too short, and marginally engaging.
