Praktan – Music Review (Bengali Soundtrack)

Spraktan bengali posterongs at the end.

Composer Anupam Roy adapts 19th century Baul musician Radharaman Dutta’s famous composition Bhromor Koio Giya for Praktan with Bhoomi frontman Surojit Chatterjee on vocals. Haven’t heard the original song but this adaptation is quite good; melancholic and soulfully rendered. Tumi Jake Bhalobaso is another doleful piece, and this one comes in two versions. Anupam himself gets behind the mic for the male version but it is the female version sung by Rabindra Sangeet singer Iman Chakraborty that scores higher, both for the lady’s superior singing and the gentler arrangement that sees some lovely guitars and keys.

The remaining two songs of the soundtrack represent its happy side. The makers’ tribute to the city of Kolkata is incredibly sweet, laidback like the city itself is known to be. Both Anupam Roy and Shreya Ghoshal do a splendid job of singing the track that derives a lot of its light-heartedness from the guitars and mandolin. Finally Moner Guprochar has Chandrabindoo singer Anindya Chatterjee on vocals. A very singalong-ish melodic piece that once again rides on a buoyant arrangement that is dominated by the harmonica.

Praktan. Anupam Roy delivers as always, a bunch of simple and quality songs.
