Ki & Ka – Music Review (Bollywood Soundtrack)

ki & ka poster

You can listen to the songs here.

Director Balki decides to not go with any Tamil remakes from Ilayaraja in Ki & Ka, but also decides to feature just one song from the veteran. Barring that awkward-sounding title, Foolishq is really engaging stuff from the composer; the melody splendidly delivered by Shreya Ghoshal and Armaan Malik over an arrangement that features some fab guitars. Mithoon’s Ji Huzoori gets off to a promising start before getting into familiar Mithoon territory. It does feature some haunting elements in the arrangement that make it a compelling listen, despite an okay-ish work on vocals by the composer (Deepali who joins him does well though).

Lead composers Meet Bros start with an adaptation of Jaz Dhami and Yo Yo Honey Singh’s 2012 song High Heels, doing away with the bit that sounded a lot like the opening of Jab Bhi Koi Ladki Dekhoon. They also get Aditi Singh Sharma here, though the song largely remains akin to the original, and works quite like that did (which is to say I am not a huge fan of either). Pump It fares decidedly better, the arrangement is more imaginative here. Rubbish lyrics, but to be fair the song is subtitled The Workout Song. Composers deliver best in Most Wanted Munda effectively conveying the light, wacky elements and helped by a neat rendition from Earl Edgar. The remix isn’t half as good though.

Ki & Ka. Director Balki goes multi-composer for the first time, but the best track still comes from Ilayaraja.
