Total Siyapaa – Music Review (Bollywood Soundtrack)

The title song is almost remix-y in its arrangement, incorporating dialogue snippets and such. But it is also super fun with its catchy tune, light-hearted lyrics and the earlier-said dialogue snippets, by Kirron Kher and Ali Zafar. And it also suits Ali Zafar’s singing style; it is in the serious songs that his limitations become apparent. Like the ballad Palat Meri Jaan which is very well-composed by the man, and written by him too, but the singing doesn’t quite match up. The heard before-ness of the Spanish/Arabic elements in Nahi Maloom does not make it any less engaging – it is always a delight to hear those guitars and accordions. Ali Zafar is joined by Fariha Parvaiz in singing this one, both of whom do a commendable job. Ali does well with the playful love song Asha as well – singing, composing and writing it in the most engaging manner. And once again the man falters with a serious song, this time on Bulleh Shah’s lines, Chal Bulleya. And it is not just the singing here, even the composing is just average.

Total Siyapaa. Entertaining soundtrack that gets occasionally marred by composer-writer-hero Ali Zafar’s limitations as a singer.
