Kai Po Che! – Music Review (Bollywood Soundtrack)

You can listen to the songs here.

The way Arshad Khan’s esraj starts off the proceedings, you know that Manjha is going to be kickass. With more strings joining the esraj alongside a lovely assortment of claps and castanets/khartaal (watch out for that second interlude), Amit Trivedi’s own spirited rendition of Swanand Kirkire’s superbly worded lines, the song leaves you on an absolute high! Shubhaarambh goes a step ahead – the composer’s modern twist to a Gujarati folk tune. While in Pareshaan last year Amit layered the harmonium over a haunting guitar base, here he similarly uses shehnai to equally mind-blowing effect. That interlude where shehnai comes together with bagpipes alone is worth replaying over and over! Add to the mix Shruti Pathak and Divya Kumar’s splendid singing – this one is gold! Meethi Boliyaan is SEL territory, the sounds are quite evocative of the composer trio’s style. That is not to say the song is not engaging – Mili Nair’s (who sang two songs for the composer in his Coke Studio episode) commendable Bollywood debut alongside Amit itself makes the song worthwhile.

Kai Po Che. Short soundtrack from Amit Trivedi that will definitely leave you wanting for more. Hoping that there is some bonus waiting in the movie’s BGM score.

Music Aloud Rating – 8.5/10
