The picture is that of Tom’s Diner in NY (seen in Seinfeld), I think that is Suzanne Vega, and the guy must be the researcher who tweaked the mp3 algorithm after hearing her singing Tom’s Diner.

All that i know here is Monk’s Restaurant, so my only guess is Seinfeld.

Tom’s Diner by Suzanne Vega which is based on the restaurant shown and was used by Karlheinz Brandenburg to develop the Mp3 technology.
